Brief Introduction

Temperature Testing & Operational Limits for 415V 3 Phase Motors

1. Temperature Compliance Under Reference Conditions

Under standard reference conditions, the temperature of the 415V 3 phase motor shall not exceed specified limits.

For non-standard field operating conditions, limits shall be adjusted according to predefined correction tables.

Test vs. Operational Site Discrepancies: If test conditions differ from operational environments, revised limits based on field data shall govern the testing process.

High-Temperature Testing Protocol: If the manufacturer identifies excessive test-site temperatures even after limit adjustments, test procedures and revised thresholds must be mutually agreed upon.

2. Hydrogen Cooling & Temperature Impact

Hydrogen Purity Tolerance: For windings cooled directly/indirectly by hydrogen, no temperature rise correction is required when hydrogen purity remains between 95% and 100%.

Structural Integrity Requirements:

Temperature rise in iron cores, permanently short-circuited windings, and structural components (excluding bearings) must not degrade their own insulation or adjacent parts.

Applies regardless of direct contact with insulation materials.

3. Commutator, Collector Ring & Brush System Standards

Temperature Limits for Critical Components:

The temperature rise of commutators, collector rings, brushes, or brush mechanisms must not compromise their insulation or nearby components.

Maximum allowable temperatures for commutators/collector rings are determined by the thermal tolerance of the brush grade and material composition, ensuring safety across the entire operational range.

Key Testing Principles

Insulation Preservation: All components must adhere to thermal thresholds that prevent insulation damage.

Material-Specific Calibration: Limits are calibrated to match the thermal endurance of brush materials and cooling medium properties (e.g., hydrogen purity).
