Terminal box
Xi'an Xima Electric Motor Original Terminal Boxes
Xi'an Xima Electric Motors' original terminal boxes for various motor models possess excellent electrical insulation properties, high mechanical strength, good heat resistance, flame retardancy, and corrosion resistance. Notably, they exhibit superior forming characteristics, including good fluidity, low molding pressure, short molding time, and low molding temperature.
Explosion-Proof Terminal Box Overview
An explosion-proof terminal box is a sealed connection protection device used in the installation of explosion-proof electrical circuits. It uses terminal posts for the connection of cables, with the box body employing sealing techniques to protect the cable connections. These boxes are used for control, lighting, or power circuit cable branching and can also serve in fuel dispenser power circuits. The explosion-proof terminal box is a sealed enclosure that meets explosion-proof standards. Cables enter and exit the box through explosion-proof lock nuts, preventing sparks at the connection points, ensuring safe wiring.
Explosion-Proof Terminal Box Structure
An explosion-proof terminal box typically consists of the cover, box body, terminal posts, diodes, connection wires, and connectors. The exterior of the box must have strong anti-aging and UV resistance capabilities, suitable for outdoor environments. The self-locking feature makes connections more convenient and secure. The terminal posts should be securely installed and have good weldability with busbars.
Explosion-Proof Terminal Box Function
An explosion-proof terminal box is designed for use in environments with explosive gases. Even if sparks occur within the box or if flammable gases seep inside, causing a localized explosion, the box can withstand these conditions, preventing sparks from affecting hazardous areas due to circuit short circuits.
Application Scope of Explosion-Proof Terminal Boxes
Zone 1 and 2 explosive gas environments;
Zone 20, 21, and 22 combustible dust environments;
Suitable for IIA, IIB, IIC explosive environments;
Suitable for ambient temperatures ranging from T1 to T4.
Features of Explosion-Proof Terminal Boxes
Explosion-proof Grade: Can be safely used in various flammable and explosive hazardous locations. Uses high-intensity gas discharge lamps with high light efficiency and a long service life, averaging over 10,000 hours.
Transparent Components: Designed to ensure soft light and even illumination, avoiding eye discomfort and fatigue for workers.
Shell Material: Made from lightweight alloy materials with high-tech spray coatings for wear resistance, corrosion resistance, and dust and water resistance, allowing long-term outdoor use.
Heat Dissipation: The compact structure design enhances heat dissipation, lowering the temperature of the lamp body and extending the service life. Good electromagnetic compatibility prevents interference with the surrounding environment.
Compact and Easy to Operate: Light in weight, small in size, elegant in appearance, and simple to operate.
Wiring Requirements for Explosion-Proof Terminal Boxes
Customers who have used explosion-proof terminal boxes know that the interior contains terminal posts. So, is it necessary to use the terminal posts for wiring? It is generally recommended to use terminal posts for wiring, and these must be tightened securely. If using insulating tape instead of terminal posts, the tape may fall off after a period of time, potentially causing a short circuit.
Wiring Steps for Explosion-Proof Terminal Boxes
To connect an explosion-proof terminal box to the power source, follow these steps:
Clean the exterior of the terminal box and strip the insulation from the cable.
Remove the outlet compression cover, cable bushing, sealing ring, and terminal box cover.
Slide the outlet compression cover, cable bushing, and sealing ring onto the cable. Then, connect the cable's power core and ground core to the terminal posts and ground screws, ensuring that the wire's exposed parts are not outside the arc washer.
Install the sealing ring, cable bushing, outlet compression plate, and terminal box cover.
During disassembly and assembly, ensure the explosion-proof surface is not damaged.
The cable should be naturally suspended between the terminal box and a vibration-free fixture, with the length of cable between the box and fixture being longer than the cable's required length.
Precautions
Before installation, verify that the technical parameters marked on the explosion-proof terminal box comply with national explosion-proof standards and actual usage requirements.
Inspect all fastening components inside and outside the terminal box for looseness. Tighten any loose parts and suspend installation if tightening is not possible.
When connecting cables, use sealing rings and metal washers, and tighten with compression nuts to ensure a secure seal and firm cable connection. Unused connections should be sealed with sealing rings and metal washers.
During maintenance of explosion-proof terminal boxes, disconnect the power supply before opening the cover to ensure safety.
Sealing Inspection for Explosion-Proof Terminal Boxes
Check if the terminal box is rusted and if the "Ex" explosion-proof label is present. Ensure that all bolts on the box cover are intact.
Rotate all bolts on the explosion-proof terminal box cover clockwise and counterclockwise to check for looseness. Tighten any loose bolts.
Check the reserved cable entry ports for metal sealing plugs. If missing, install metal plugs or use insulating sealing paste for temporary sealing, ensuring no gaps.
Rotate the sealing plugs clockwise and counterclockwise to check for looseness. Tighten any loose plugs.
Check the connection points of the protective conduit at both ends of the explosion-proof terminal box for looseness. If any looseness is detected, tighten with tools.
Ensure that the protective conduit threads at both ends are free from rust, with at least six effective thread engagements. Apply power-grade compound grease or conductive anti-rust grease to the threads. Do not use hemp or insulating tape or paint on the threads.
Check if the explosion-proof sealing rings are present at the entry and exit ports. If missing, install them, or temporarily seal with insulating sealing paste.
If metal washers are missing, install metal washers or temporarily seal with insulating sealing paste.
Installation Considerations for Explosion-Proof Terminal Boxes
Pre-Installation: Check the nameplate’s technical data to ensure it matches actual usage conditions. Ensure all fasteners are tight. The grounding inside and outside the terminal box must be reliable. When installing, pass the cable through sealing rings and metal washers and use compression nuts to secure them, ensuring the seal and cable are firm. Seal unused wiring ports with sealing rings and metal washers. Always disconnect the power before opening the cover during maintenance.
During Installation: Ensure proper grounding both inside and outside the box. Installation should not exceed the usage conditions outlined in the instructions, and no parts should be replaced without authorization. Follow the procedure of "disconnection before opening the cover." Choose the correct sealing ring size according to the cable diameter and securely tighten the compression nuts. Seal unused ports properly.
